PHI SIGMA PI Interviews

Interview with 2006-2007 Regional Consultant Emily Lodge

The following email interview was conducted with Region Consultant Emily Lodge.  Brother Lodge as an alumna of Alpha Omicron Chapter at the University of Virginia.  As a consultant, she is charged with counseling chapters via phone contact and visitations.  Work with chapter development includes recruitment, risk management, image enhancement, and parliamentary procedure.

1.  When did you join Phi Sigma Pi and why?

I rushed Phi Sigma Pi in the spring of 2003 after getting the recruitment letter.  I had actually started rushing a sorority but decided that it wasn't for me.  I was looking for a group on grounds (UVA calls it grounds, not campus) to be a part of and after going to the first info night, I knew that PSP was the group for me.

2.  How would you describe your experience as a brother in the fraternity?

My experiences in Phi Sigma Pi were like no other.  I got to meet so many interesting and cool people that I wouldn't have met otherwise.  When you spend so much time with your brothers, you really get to know them and have a family-like support base.

3.  What do you love most about being a brother

I love the people.  The people are what make the organization and what shape your experiences as a brother.

4.  Do you think that being a member in the fraternity has effected you as a person, and if so, then how?

Being a brother has definitely affected me as a person.  While a brother, I was Scholarship Chair, Service Chair, and President.  Holding these various positions helped me to realize my leadership style and grow as an individual.

5.  Why did you want to become a Region Consultant?
I wanted to give back to the fraternity that gave me so much as an undergrad.  What better way to do so then to become part of the National Staff and help chapters all over the country.

6.  What will your responsibilities be as a Consultant?

I am responsible for 24 chapters in the Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South, and Central regions.  Throughout the year, I visit each chapter for a couple of days and meet with all the officers and committee chairs.  I answer any questions chapter may have about recruitment, event ideas, etc.

7.  What do you look forward to doing as a Phi Sigma Pi Region Consultant?
I look forward to meeting hundreds and hundreds of brothers.  I also can't wait to travel to all of my chapter because I love seeing our huge country.
